C.R.A.P Web Design: Contrast, Repetition, Alignment and Proximity

Apple Vacations

Of the three websites I viewed/critiqued for the C.R.A.P (HA!) project, Apple Vacations was my favorite.

https://www.applevacations.com/

Contrast: I think their contrast is great. They make things different and make important elements stand out. The call out boxes to quickly find a vacation makes your eye go right to it. They use different sizes, colors, fonts and shapes (buttons). The different property logos on top of the photos also provides contrast.

Repetition: I like their repetition of the layout with the boxes of their Top Promotions. The last box is a little different, which draws your eyes to it. It’s a longer rectangular box vs. the top 4 smaller rectangular ones.

Alignment: All of Top Promotion boxes are aligned well including the lower ones under Top Vacation Destinations. And they even break up the sizes of these boxes like they did above with the Top Promotions.

Proximity: Items that are related are grouped together like Top Promotions, Top Vacation Destinations and then again below in the Featured Vacation Deals section. This makes it easy to find what you’re looking for.

Clarity: The site is clear and easy to navigate

Precedence: I think the precedence makes sense. Most important things at the top.

Spacing: Spacing looks good! Good amount of spacing in between sections.

Typography: They have good contrast, it’s easy to read.

Navigation: It is clear and easy to understand: Destinations, Hotels, Deals – right at the top.

Consistency: It has a very consistent feel.

Now... where do YOU want to go on vacation?!
